Gas appliance safety has hit the mainstream media because they can cause disasters and death when they are not property maintained. As a minimum, Gas appliances need to be checked and tested at least every two years by a licensed tradesman. It’s a better practice to have them checked every annually.

A service and check should include-

• Removing and cleaning the pilot, pilot assembly & main burner
• Testing the operation of parts including the thermocouple lead
• Checking and clearing the burner chamber
• A general clean of the unit
• A full safety check and test on completion
• Testing the unit to ensure no presence of carbon monoxide (CO) using a gas analyser
• Cleaning work areas and removing rubbish from site
